The legal team of Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have firmly denied media reports suggesting that the detained IPOB leader admitted to inciting the public to attack security operatives. The reports, they say, are not only false but a “malicious misrepresentation” of court proceedings.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, refuted the viral claims that circulated across several news platforms, describing them as “grossly misleading.”
Ejimakor, writing via his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), stated: “There is no truth to the claims that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu admitted to inciting attacks on police or any security agency. What is circulating online is a deliberate distortion of court events and should be disregarded in its entirety.”
He added that the IPOB leader has always maintained his innocence and continues to advocate for peaceful self-determination as guaranteed by international law.
The IPOB legal team further urged media houses to exercise caution and verify sensitive legal proceedings before publishing, warning that such misreporting could jeopardize ongoing legal processes and fuel unnecessary tensions.
Meanwhile, supporters of Kanu have taken to social media to express concern over what they described as “targeted propaganda” aimed at tarnishing the image of their leader and undermining the struggle for Biafra.
Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021, is currently facing terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government.
His case remains one of the most high-profile legal battles in recent Nigerian history, drawing widespread attention both locally and internationally.
