President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been conferred with a traditional chieftaincy title, “Dike Si Na Mba”—meaning “Warrior from Another Land”—by traditional rulers in Anambra State during his recent working visit to the South-East region.
The honour was bestowed upon the President in recognition of his leadership role and in appreciation of his visit to the state, where he commissioned several key developmental projects in partnership with Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
The event, which took place during the President’s stop in Awka, was attended by top state officials, traditional leaders, and members of the public.
The title “Dike Si Na Mba” is traditionally reserved for individuals who are considered to have shown courage, leadership, or outstanding contributions to a community outside their place of origin.
However, the conferment has stirred a wave of controversy online. Social media users and commentators have expressed mixed reactions, with some questioning the appropriateness of such a title being given to a non-Igbo political figure.
One user described the title as “a shame to Igbo culture and tradition,” arguing that it undermines the values the title historically represents.
Despite the backlash, traditional leaders in Anambra insist the gesture was symbolic of unity and national inclusivity.
