Tension in Imo as Gunmen Set Trucks Ablaze in Umuna, Orlu

There was panic in Umuna, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State on Thursday, following a violent attack by suspected gunmen who set multiple trucks on fire along a major road in the area.

Videos of the incident, which have since gone viral on social media, showed several vehicles engulfed in flames with thick smoke billowing into the sky.

The scene caused widespread panic among residents and commuters, who were seen fleeing the area for safety.

In one of the viral clips, a man speaking in Igbo could be heard describing the situation as it unfolded.

He noted that the fire was spreading quickly and had almost reached nearby buildings, posing a threat to lives and property.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred suddenly, with the assailants storming the area and targeting parked trucks before setting them ablaze.

The exact number of vehicles destroyed remains unclear, but sources suggest that several trucks were affected.

Residents have since called on the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to urgently intervene and beef up security in the region to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement as of the time of this report.
