Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), a project aimed at improving mass transportation within the state.
Announcing the development on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the governor emphasized that the terminal is designed to enhance seamless connectivity between the Lagos Red Line corridor and other parts of the city.
“This strategic bus terminal provides a convenient location for passengers to board and exit buses while connecting to other transportation options,” he stated.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that this project aligns with his administration’s vision to modernize Lagos’ public transport system by integrating rail, water, and road networks. As part of efforts to make transportation more affordable, he announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line, bringing the cost down from ₦1,500 to ₦1,000.
Additionally, the governor revealed that new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses are expected to arrive by the third quarter of the year. These buses will help expand the fleet, increase availability, and reduce waiting times for commuters.
He urged Lagos residents to take ownership of the project, emphasizing that it was made possible through tax contributions. “Please take pride in it, protect it, and ensure it remains safe from harm. By safeguarding these assets, we can all benefit from their long-term value.”
The commissioning of the Abule Egba Bus Terminal marks another milestone in Lagos’ commitment to efficient and sustainable urban transportation.
