More trouble for Nigeria and Kenya as United Nations demands details of Nnamdi Kanu’s health condition and the condition of his arrest.
The leader of the Indegeneous People of Biafra was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria few months ago.
Following his arrest Kanu has been arraigned on Abuja high court to continue his trial over 7 count amended charges brought against him by the Nigerian Government.
Upon his arrest and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria from Kenya, Junior brother to the IPOB leader, Kanu Nta Kanu, has written to the United Nations over the alleged Human right Violation and Torture by the Nigerian Government and Kenyan Government.
While responding UN has written an urgent appeal to the Nigerian Government and Kenyan Government demanding health status of the IPOB leader and international arrest warrant that is filed against him before his arrest in Kenya.
UN had warned the both countries to stop any further tuture and violation of Human against Kanu, that if the allegations is confirmed to be true both countries will beer serious consequences.
The mandate read,
“As it is our responsibility under the mandates provided to us by the Human Rights Council to seek to clarify all cases brought to our attention, we would be grateful for your observations on the following matters: any additional information and any comment you may have on the above-mentioned allegations.
“Please provide detailed information on the current state of health of Mr Kanu and the measures undertaken, or foreseen, to prevent any irreparable damage to his life and personal integrity and to ensure that he has access to the medications and medical treatment required by his health conditions.
“Please provide detailed information on the circumstances in which Mr Kanu was arrested, forcibly disappeared before being handed over to Nigerian authorities and transferred from Nairobi to Abuja. Also provide any international arrest warrant that may have been issued against him, prior to his arrest.”
While reacting to the Development Nnamdi Kanu has expressed joy over UN intervention in his arrest and detention.
According to His Lawyer Alloy Ejimakor, he made it known in his tweet after meeting the IPOB leader on Tuesday in DSS detention in Abuja.
