President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Finnish government for its decisive action in arresting and detaining Simon Ekpa, emphasizing that Nigeria will not tolerate divisive actions or statements that threaten its unity.
Speaking on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving Letters of Credence from the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Sanna Selin, Tinubu commended Finland’s timely intervention, which he said safeguarded Nigeria’s integrity and promoted peaceful coexistence.
“I must thank you for your efforts in safeguarding human rights through the trial of Simon Ekpa. Nigeria is indivisible. We have faced turbulent times and cannot afford to promote terrorism,” the President stated.
Tinubu stressed the importance of stability and cooperation as tools for national development, adding, “I am a child born into activism, but not divisiveness. Our watchword is cohesion to move the country forward.”
The President also acknowledged the Finnish Ambassador’s focus on key sectors such as ICT, agriculture, and education, noting their potential to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s development.
In addition to receiving the Finnish Ambassador, Tinubu also welcomed Letters of Credence from the European Union Ambassador, Mr. Gautier Mignot, and Algeria’s Ambassador, Hocine Mezoued.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President reiterated Nigeria’s respect for the rule of law as a cornerstone of its democracy. He praised ongoing reforms aimed at fostering growth and expressed gratitude for Finland’s humanitarian support in the North East.
“Nigeria is undergoing necessary reforms to stimulate prosperity. I believe we can work together to achieve shared goals,” Tinubu concluded.
