The Kano State Hisba Board has intensified its enforcement of Sharia law during the holy month of Ramadan, apprehending several commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) drivers for allegedly mixing male and female passengers in their vehicles.
According to the board, this practice is strictly prohibited under Islamic law, and drivers caught violating the rule will face serious consequences.
Speaking on the arrests, a Hisba official confirmed that the suspects were apprehended during routine patrols across different parts of Kano metropolis. He emphasized that the board remains committed to upholding moral and religious standards throughout the fasting period.
The Hisba Board has vowed to continue its patrols and enforcement efforts, ensuring that residents adhere strictly to the principles of Sharia law. This includes monitoring public conduct, enforcing dress codes, and cracking down on activities deemed immoral or inappropriate.
The arrests have sparked mixed reactions among residents, with some supporting the move as a way to preserve Islamic values, while others argue that it infringes on personal freedoms and transportation convenience.
As Ramadan progresses, Hisba has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on any behavior it considers violations of Islamic principles, warning both drivers and passengers to comply or face legal action.
