Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has announced plans for another Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt, this time aiming to cook the largest pot of jollof rice ever made.
According to her, the project will require 250 bags of rice and a specially designed giant cooking pot.
Speaking about the preparations, Hilda explained that she has run several calculations to estimate the logistics, noting that the cost of the attempt could climb as high as ₦50 million.
She recently carried out a test run with the massive pot and confirmed that it is fully ready for the historic cook-up.
The event, which will showcase one of West Africa’s most beloved dishes, is expected to attract widespread attention both locally and internationally.
Jollof rice is a cultural staple across the continent, with ongoing debates between Nigeria, Ghana, and other West African nations over who makes it best.
Hilda’s attempt seeks not only to etch her name into the Guinness World Records but also to spotlight Nigeria’s culinary heritage.
Reactions on social media have been mixed. While many fans on X (formerly Twitter) applauded her ambition and pledged support, others criticized the project, describing it as a wasteful venture given the country’s current economic challenges.
This would not be Hilda’s first foray into Guinness Records. In 2023, she made global headlines after completing her widely celebrated Cook-a-thon, where she broke the record for the longest individual cooking marathon.
Supporters argue that the upcoming jollof challenge could further position Nigeria on the world culinary map and inspire other young chefs to pursue bold ventures.
