The Nigerian Armed Forces, in a coordinated operation with the Joint Task Force (JTF), have arrested notorious bandit leader Ifeanyi Okorienta, popularly known as “Gentle the Yahoo.”

The operation took place in the early hours of September 16, 2025, in Okigwe, Imo State, bringing an end to what authorities described as one of the most wanted criminal reigns in the South-East.

Security sources confirmed that Gentle, who had styled himself as a “Triple General” of a self-acclaimed Biafran armed movement, was captured alive after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

According to military officials, Gentle has been linked to a series of violent crimes, including multiple murders, kidnappings, and armed attacks in Orsu, Orlu, and Okigwe local government areas of Imo State.

He gained infamy after a viral video showed him allegedly executing three young men whom he accused of using his guns to carry out armed robbery.

Military authorities say his arrest marks a significant step in restoring peace and security to the region, which has been plagued by frequent clashes between security operatives and armed groups.

“The capture of Ifeanyi Okorienta is a major breakthrough in our efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the South-East,” a senior security source told Trem Buz reporters. “We will continue to go after anyone threatening the peace of law-abiding citizens.”

Gentle is currently in military custody and will be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Residents of the affected communities have welcomed the news, expressing hope that his arrest will reduce attacks, killings, and other violent incidents that have destabilized the region in recent months
