Biafra: HURIWA kicks as Umahi Detains over 300 suspect IPOB members including Pregnant Woman

The Human Right Writers association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called on Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi to release the detained persons including a pregnant woman for Allegedly being an IPOB member.

Over 300 persons including a pregnant woman has been allegedly detained by the Ebonyi state Government for alleged involvement in IPOB / ESN.

The detained persons has been kept in detention without being sent to the court as the law says.

HURIWA calls on the Ebonyi state Government to release the 300 persons unconditionally as thier is no crime they have committed.

They called on the National Human rights Commission to wake up and visit the prisons in Ebonyi state to fight for the right of inmates that is illegally detained.

In a statement by it’s National Media Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA further said it is a disgrace to Nigeria that its citizens are being detained only because they belonged to IPOB, without trial or whotsoever

“We are worried that the nation has a national institution for the promotion and protection of Human Rights known as the National Human Rights Commission, yet we have 300 accused members of IPOB some of them pregnant woman been kept in pre-trial detention facilities that aren’t habitable even when they are to be presumed innocent until convicted by the court of law as stipulated constitutionally,” the group said.

“This is a shame of the 21st century and to think that the Ebonyi State Governor is the Chairman of Igbo governors makes the entire scenario even the more worrisome and pathetic,” it said.
