Akpabio’s Wife Sues Senator Natasha Akpoti for ₦250 Billion Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, wife of the President of the Senate, has filed a ₦250 billion lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations that her husband, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, sexually harassed the Kogi Central senator.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of victimizing her in the Senate after she allegedly rejected his sexual advances—claims she said were made in the presence of her husband.

However, Mrs. Akpabio dismissed the allegations, calling them false and attention-seeking, and has now taken legal action to defend her fundamental rights and family’s reputation.

At a press conference, she revealed that she has filed a fundamental rights suit (Suit No: CV/814/25) under Section 34(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution and Articles 4 and 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

She is asking the court to declare that Natasha’s statements on the Senate floor on February 20, 2025, and during an interview on Arise News TV violated her fundamental rights, causing her emotional and psychological distress.

Mrs. Akpabio is also seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent Natasha from making further “scandalous and defamatory” statements and is demanding ₦250 billion in damages.

Additionally, she has filed a separate defamation lawsuit (Suit No: CV/816/25), claiming that Natasha’s allegations damaged her family’s reputation.

The lawsuit demands that Natasha issue a formal retraction and an unconditional apology, published in The Guardian and This Day newspapers.

Mrs. Akpabio is also seeking ₦1 billion in punitive damages and a court order restraining Natasha from making further defamatory remarks.

The legal battle intensifies as both parties stand by their claims, setting the stage for a highly publicized courtroom showdown.
