Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has confirmed that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gana made the announcement while addressing journalists after the PDP Niger State Congress held in Minna on Saturday.
According to him, Nigerians have experienced successive administrations since Jonathan left office in 2015 and are now calling for his return.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years.
Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana stated.
He added: “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”
Gana praised the PDP as a party that is “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented,” emphasizing that it has consistently allowed Nigerians to freely choose their leaders.
He dismissed concerns of internal party crisis, explaining that the founding fathers had earlier convened a consultative conference in Abuja to resolve outstanding issues and prepare for the 2027 race.
The Niger State congress also produced new party executives. Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu emerged as State Chairman with 1,289 votes, narrowly defeating Zonal Chairman Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who polled 1,269 votes. Other winners include Alhaji Khadi Kuta as Secretary (unopposed) and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu, elected Woman Leader with 1,373 votes against Ramotu Jibrin’s 590.
Halidu, in his acceptance speech, called for unity and urged members to work together for a PDP victory in 2027.
