The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, effective March 6, 2025, over alleged violations of Senate rules.
The decision followed recommendations from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, which investigated the senator’s conduct.
As part of her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan will face several penalties, including:

•A ban on official representation, meaning she cannot attend any events within or outside the country as a senator.
•Prohibition from entering the National Assembly complex during the suspension period.
The Senate unanimously adopted these disciplinary measures, reinforcing its stance on upholding internal rules and ethical conduct.
The suspension has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a harsh political move, while others see it as necessary to maintain Senate discipline. Meanwhile, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has not issued an official response to the decision.
