In the spirit of love and service, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has donated ₦25 million to support the Daughters of Divine Love (DDL) in Emene, Enugu, as part of their proposed College of Nursing project.
Obi emphasized that Valentine’s Day is about love and selfless service, aligning with the teachings of Saint Valentine, who symbolizes compassion and sacrifice.
His visit to the DDL congregation reinforced the importance of using love as a tool for positive change.
“Love and charity, which St. Valentine epitomizes, are best expressed through sacrifice for others,” Obi stated.
He criticized the growing culture of materialism in Nigeria, which he believes fuels poverty and hardship. Instead, he called for a shift towards service, compassion, and shared prosperity, which he sees as the true path to national progress.
During his visit, Obi commended the DDL sisters for their unwavering commitment to healthcare and education, which he described as the two most critical pillars of development. He stressed that human infrastructure must come before physical infrastructure, as a nation can only progress when its people are well-educated and healthy.
To further his support for the project, Obi presented a ₦25 million cheque, an additional contribution from himself and Prof. Philip Ozuah, bringing their total donation towards the College of Nursing project to ₦100 million.
“Love must be driven by our actions towards a caring and better society,” Obi added.
He reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the project is fully operational and urged Nigerians to embrace love not just as a feeling but as a commitment to building a more compassionate and just society.
