The family of Timilehin Faith Opesusi, a 19-year-old girl from Ogun State, has been thrown into mourning following her tragic death by suicide in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State, after reportedly being disappointed by her 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
According to information gathered, Timilehin had taken the JAMB examination for the second time, aspiring to study Microbiology. However, when the results were released, she scored 190, in which she considered too low, especially in comparison to her previous year’s performance.
“She mentioned that last year’s result was better and expressed frustration over this year’s outcome,” a close friend of the deceased revealed to The Guardian.
Neighbours described the late teenager as gentle, quiet, and humble, adding that her sudden action came as a shock to those who knew her.
Tragedy struck on Monday when she allegedly ingested rodent poison. Alarm was raised after she requested palm oil at her sister’s office, saying she had taken a harmful substance.
Her sister immediately called for help, and sympathisers rushed to the scene in a bid to save her.
Despite efforts to assist her, Timilehin sadly passed away, prompting fresh calls for greater mental health awareness among Nigerian youths, especially those facing academic pressure.
