The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a Christian community in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.
The terrorist group announced the assault via its propaganda channels late Sunday, sharing graphic images reportedly taken during the massacre.
According to local sources and international monitors, the attack targeted a remote village where Christian residents had gathered for a mourning ceremony.
The militants reportedly stormed the area, opening fire on the crowd and killing at least 20 people.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that several homes and the local church were set ablaze during the assault, leaving survivors traumatized and the community in ruins.
The victims were said to have gathered to pay their last respects to a deceased villager when the attackers struck without warning.
Images released by ISIS showed burning buildings and the aftermath of the violence. While the photos could not be independently verified, Nigerian security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
