The Sultan of Sokoto has announced that the crescent moon for Shawwal 1446 was not sighted in Nigeria, meaning Eid Al-Fitr will be observed on Monday, March 31, 2025, instead of Sunday, March 30 as previously anticipated.
The decision follows Islamic tradition, which requires the sighting of the new moon to mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal.
Since there were no confirmed moon sightings across the country, fasting will continue for another day.
Muslims across Nigeria will now celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on Monday, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan with prayers, feasting, and festivities.
