The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intensified efforts to apprehend controversial Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, by placing him on an international watchlist and notifying Interpol.
The action comes in response to the artist’s failure to respond to multiple official summons regarding a viral video in which he allegedly claimed to have engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
The video has sparked nationwide outrage and prompted an investigation by federal authorities.
On June 27, NAPTIP officially declared Speed Darlington wanted on serious charges including alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
Despite this, the musician has continued to deny any wrongdoing, maintaining that he has not broken any laws.
NAPTIP spokesperson Vincent Adekoye confirmed the development in a statement issued Monday, saying the agency is coordinating with the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Interpol in its effort to track and arrest the suspect.
“We have followed all due legal processes and obtained a court order to place Mr. Okoye on a watchlist,” Adekoye said. “We are working closely with relevant national and international bodies to ensure he is located and brought in for questioning.”
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing justice, particularly in cases involving minors, and have urged the public to provide any useful information regarding the entertainer’s whereabouts.
