A viral video has surfaced showing students of the Delta State School of Nursing rejecting First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as “our mother” during her recent visit to the state.
The First Lady was in Delta State as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) project, aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
During the visit, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised her efforts, stating that Nigeria’s health sector was undergoing a great transformation.
Oluremi Tinubu also presented professional kits to the wives of South-South governors, who serve as RHI coordinators in their respective states.
She later visited the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, where she met with Delta’s traditional rulers.
However, what caught public attention was a moment when the Master of Ceremony referred to the First Lady as “our mother.” Instead of joining in agreement, the students loudly rejected the title, responding:
•MC: “Na our mama be this” (This is our mother).
•Students: “Na your mama be this” (This is your mother).
The video quickly went viral, sparking debates on social media. While First Ladies are often referred to as the “mother of the nation,” many Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration due to rising living costs, economic hardship, and insecurity.
This incident comes amid the 30-day Rant Challenge, a trending social media movement where Nigerians voice their struggles under President Bola Tinubu’s government.
