Operatives of the Hisba Board in Kano State have arrested several young men accused of failing to observe the Ramadan fast on the first day of the holy month.
The Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrests, stating that the individuals were apprehended during routine patrols conducted across various parts of Kano metropolis.
According to Dr. Abubakar, the Hisba officers will intensify patrols to ensure compliance with Islamic laws during Ramadan. He emphasized that fasting is a fundamental obligation for Muslims, and Hisba remains committed to upholding religious and cultural values in the state.
In addition to enforcing the Ramadan fast, Hisba operatives also arrested around 60 individuals for sporting ‘indecent haircuts’, which are considered violations of Sharia law and local cultural norms.
The Hisba Board, Kano’s religious enforcement agency, frequently conducts crackdowns on behaviors deemed un-Islamic, including public indecency, alcohol consumption, and immoral dressing.
Dr. Abubakar reiterated that patrols will continue throughout the Ramadan period, ensuring strict adherence to Islamic teachings and Kano State’s Sharia-based legal framework.
