Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 elections, Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly opposed the recent move by a coalition group to adopt the ADC as their platform for the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Abuja, Kachikwu described the coalition’s attempt as an outright hijack of the party by individuals with self-serving political ambitions.
He expressed deep concern over what he called a coordinated effort by the coalition group to take control of the ADC without the backing of the party’s core stakeholders.
According to Kachikwu, the group’s intention is not driven by a genuine desire to serve Nigerians but rather by personal ambition and political opportunism. “They are simply shopping around for a party to use for their selfish interests,” he said.
He further questioned the coalition’s claim of embarking on a “rescue mission” to save ordinary Nigerians, pointing to their past records in leadership, which he described as disappointing and lacking in any real benefit to the masses.
In a scathing dismissal of the group, Kachikwu declared, “Nigerians are tired of their generation and reject everything they have to offer, which is nothing.”
Kachikwu’s comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several groups seeking viable platforms to project their influence.
However, the ADC’s 2023 flagbearer has made it clear that the party will not be used as a political dumping ground.
He called on party members and the wider public to remain vigilant and protect the ADC from what he described as political hijackers masquerading as saviors.
