President Ibrahim Traoré Meets Venezuelan Leader Maduro During Official Visit to Russia

As part of his official visit to Russia, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, began his diplomatic engagements on a high meetings by holding his first audience with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The meeting took place in Moscow on Thursday, May 8, 2025, as President Traoré arrived in Russia to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Russian victory over Nazism a historic event drawing top leaders  from around the world.

In what marked the beginning of a busy diplomatic schedule, President Traoré welcomed the Venezuelan delegation, led by President Maduro, who expressed his satisfaction at meeting his Burkinabè counterpart for the first time.

“I am very pleased to meet President Traoré,” Maduro said during the audience.

The meeting reflects the growing geopolitical engagement and south-south cooperation between African and Latin American nations, particularly as both Burkina Faso and Venezuela continue to seek new strategic alliances amid shifting global dynamics.

The discussions between the two leaders are expected to focus on areas of bilateral cooperation, mutual political support, and shared views on international sovereignty and multipolarity.

President Traoré is expected to hold more diplomatic meetings in the coming days as part of his official visit to Russia.
