In a dramatic session at the Lagos State High Court on Monday, Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level student of the University of Lagos, explained why she failed to report the death of Super TV CEO, Michael Ataga, to authorities.
Testifying before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square, Chidinma stated that fear prevented her from contacting the police after Ataga’s death.
The accused is currently standing trial for the alleged murder of the media executive, an incident that shocked the nation.
While being led in her defence, Chidinma told the court, “I did not report to the police because I was scared. I had read stories of people who reported crimes and ended up being accused themselves.”
She further explained that after the incident, she contemplated calling the apartment’s gateman but changed her mind out of fear of possible consequences.
Chidinma’s statement adds a new dimension to her ongoing trial, as the prosecution alleges that she murdered Ataga after spending time with him at a rented apartment in Lekki, Lagos.
The case continues to generate widespread public attention, with many closely following developments as the trial proceeds.
