Suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Sunday, issued an apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding the sexual harassment allegations she previously made against him.
However, the apology, contained in a satirical letter addressed to Akpabio, carried undertones of irony.
The letter was released to journalists in Abuja while the Senate President is currently in Rome attending the funeral of the late Pope Francis.
Recall that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6, 2025, following a heated dispute with Senate leadership over what she described as a discriminatory change in the Senate’s seating arrangement, allegedly aimed at undermining her.
The situation escalated when the senator appeared on national television, accusing Akpabio of orchestrating her punishment after she reportedly rejected his alleged sexual advances — a claim that stirred controversy within and outside the National Assembly.
In her latest letter, although offering an “apology,” Akpoti-Uduaghan’s tone was laced with sarcasm, further deepening the political drama surrounding the incident.
She extended her “heartfelt regrets” for any “emotional discomfort” her statements may have caused, while subtly reinforcing her earlier grievances.
The development has added a fresh twist to the ongoing tension between the embattled senator and the Senate leadership.
It remains unclear if this latest move will pave the way for a resolution of the conflict or further strain relations within the upper legislative chamber.
