Popular Nigerian skit maker and activist, Mr. Macaroni, has cautioned the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos zone against any attempt to intimidate or victimize a female corps member who recently expressed her frustration over the hardship in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The corps member’s emotional video went viral after she broke down in tears, lamenting how the rising cost of living and inflation have made survival increasingly difficult.
She specifically complained about the constant increase in food prices and how daily expenses have become unbearable for Nigerians.
Following the video’s spread, there were unconfirmed reports suggesting that NYSC officials might take disciplinary action against her for criticizing the government.
Reacting to the situation, Mr. Macaroni strongly warned the NYSC Director-General and other officials, stating that corps members have the right to express their opinions on the government’s performance.
“You cannot threaten, intimidate, or victimize any corper for expressing their view on the performance of the president. They are citizens with rights; the president is in office to serve,” he said.
His statement has further fueled public support for the corps member, with many Nigerians calling on the NYSC to respect freedom of speech and focus on improving the welfare of corps members instead of trying to silence criticism.
