A man identified as Odukaye Kunle has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for physically assaulting his five-year-old son, Boluwatife, in Ota, Ogun State.
The incident, captured in a viral video, shows Kunle viciously kicking his son off his feet as the child approached him to request money for snacks before heading to school.
In the footage, Kunle, seemingly distracted by his phone, suddenly sweeps the boy’s legs from under him, causing him to fall backward and hit his head violently on the ground.
The horrific act drew immediate concern from passersby, who rushed to rescue the child and reported the matter to the police.
Confirming the arrest, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, stated on his social media account that Kunle would face charges in court tomorrow.
He also revealed that the young boy and his mother would be taken to the police medical unit for medical assessment and necessary care.
The disturbing video has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for strict legal action against the father to serve as a deterrent against child abuse. The police assured the public that justice would be served.
