All police escorts assigned to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, as well as those stationed at the Assembly complex, have been withdrawn with immediate effect.
The sudden removal of security personnel has raised serious concerns about the safety of both the Speaker and the legislative building, leaving them exposed to potential threats.
Confirming the development, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Victor Ganzallo, described the situation as unprecedented and alarming.
“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo stated.
He further warned that the lack of security poses a significant risk, making Meranda vulnerable to attacks.
Despite the growing concerns, neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the state government has provided an official explanation for the security withdrawal.
This development comes just hours after reports emerged that Meranda might step down from her position, but only during a plenary session.
The situation has sparked speculation about political tensions within the Lagos State Assembly. As security concerns mount, calls for an urgent resolution continue to grow.
