Nine Dead, Three Injured in Early Morning Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A fatal accident on Monday morning claimed the lives of nine people, leaving three others injured on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash, which occurred at around 5:30 a.m. near the Ayetoro corridor, involved 13 people—10 men and three women.

Confirming the incident, Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command, stated that nine victims (six men and three women) died, while three others sustained injuries.

The vehicles involved were identified as a Toyota Hiace bus (UYY 165 ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA 244 XC).

According to the FRSC, the crash was caused by excessive speed and driver fatigue, which led to a loss of control, causing the bus to crash into the parked truck.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to attend to the victims, with the injured receiving medical treatment. Authorities have urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and take necessary rest breaks to prevent similar tragedies.

The accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, especially on high-speed highways.
