An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has sparked public outcry after reportedly impregnating 10 girls within a span of five months, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl.
The shocking revelation was made by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, during a live video session on Wednesday.
Visibly alarmed, the commissioner described the case as overwhelming and sought advice from members of the public.
“This one is beyond my capacity. I need advice from the public,” she said.
According to Obinabo, the teenager was sent to serve as an apprentice and had barely spent three months at his master’s workplace when he impregnated his boss’s daughter and the shop’s salesgirl. The discovery led to his immediate dismissal.
“This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18. Within three months, he impregnated his master’s daughter and the salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months later, he had impregnated eight more girls in the village,” Obinabo explained.
The commissioner also shared that the boy’s mother, who brought the matter to her office, admitted she now lives in fear each time a young woman visits their home.
Obinabo expressed concerns over the speed and extent of the boy’s actions, even suggesting the situation might have a spiritual undertone, given how unusual it is for such a young person to impregnate 10 girls in a short period.
The commissioner said the matter is currently under review, and called for urgent societal and parental intervention to curb such alarming behaviour.
